In the beginning days of Halo, and even Halo 2, there was one factor that seperated the pro gamers from the amatuers, the good players from the bad, and the bad players from the worst. But it just doesn’t do that, it also helps keep players from making an ass of themselves by talknig smack to the wrong person. However, it goes beyond gaming, into the real world, and has been the subject of controvers y ever since the times of Aretha Franklin. What is this “factor” you might ask, and how can I use it to my advantage? Well my friend it’s really quite simple, it’s called respect, live it, love it, learn it. Wait, didn’t we just talk about gaming, and also respect in the same paragraph? “What exactly do those two things have in common?” you’re probably saying. Well, for example, when you lay down a sweet no scope on someone from halfway across Zanzibar, its respect for your achievemen t that keeps your team-mates from betraying you when you yell “OMG sweet no scope on some noob!” at the top of your lungs. But let’s get specific, it’s not just in the game that people need to have respect, it goes way beyond that, all the way to real life. The things that people do and say in a game may affect people in real life, how they talk, how the act, and even their self- esteem. And when the majority of the gamers on XBL are still in high school, self- esteem is pretty damn important, I would venture to say, because what we do on live could affect them for the rest of their lives.

So with something as important as the future of gamers everywhere at stake, what exactly should we do? How can we prevent something as intangible as disrespect ? Who can decide who gets respect and who doesn’t? Who is it ok to trash talk to, and when is it necassary to just shut up? The answer is quite obvious, in fact it is so obvious that you would think people everywhere would already be doing it, but reality is, they aren’t. Respect everyone. Even among KSI, members aren’t getting the respect that they deserve. It’s simple really, give everyone the respect they deserve, regardless of level and rank. Everyone deserves respect people, even if for the simple fact that they are in KSI. With over three- thousand member’s world wide KSI may seem like just some huge organizati on, but the fact is, that according to Bungie.net there are over three- hundred thousand unique players in the Halo 2 universe. When you put it that way, KSI doesn’t seem so huge anymore, does it? That’s why the people that are in KSI need to band together, and give each other the respect that we deserve, regardless of rank.

So I am issuing a plea to all of KSI. That’s right, I am pleading with you, that’s how important this is. Give respect to everyone, regardless of rank. The people of KSI need to band together to forge throguh the river of controvers y that surrounds us. There are enough people trying to tear KSI apart, without us trying to self- destruct from within, don’t you agree?
