Within the close-knit community of KSI (Knowledge, Strength, Integrity), recent weeks have marked significant leadership transitions, with several long-standing squads undergoing splits to foster growth and create new opportunities. We had the chance to speak with two individuals deeply involved in this process: Gay Redneck, a newly appointed Squad Leader (SL), and Storm, a newly appointed Co-Founder (CoFo). They shared their experiences leading up to the squad splits and their aspirations for the future.
For Gay redneck, the journey to becoming an SL was a blend of ambition and anticipation. "Well, when I was officially told I was going to be one of the SOs being promoted to SL, I was excited but also very nervous," they admitted. Having set their sights on this role since becoming a Cadet, the promotion represented the culmination of hard work and the trust of their previous SL. "I'd also say I was relieved a bit. In a sense that my SL at the time believed in me." Reflecting on the initial period after the split, Gay redneck reported positive momentum. "We're a little over a month out from the split, and so far, good. We've almost doubled our population since we split. Our Officer core is doing strong, and our retention rate has stayed really positive." The primary challenge now lies in encouraging further engagement within the ranks. "If there is one hurdle we've come across, it's just motivating people to rank up and join the Officer Corps." Looking ahead, Gay redneck embraces the inevitable challenges of leadership. "I'm sure there will be. No squad is perfect, and no SL is perfect. But I'm always willing to face those challenges head-on, no matter what they are, especially if they can help me learn and grow and become a better person and leader within KSI." Their goals for the squad are centered on sustainable growth and development. "I want the squad to be successful and grow, then I want to get to a healthy splitting point and pass on my leadership to whoever the next SL will be. But I'm taking my time with that, I'm in no rush."
For Stormy, the path to the split was remarkably smooth, a testament to the strength of their former officer corps. "The road to the split was kind of a breeze. I built an officer corps that handled all obstacles that came to them, making the split a lot smoother." Now stepping into the role of CoFo, Stormy anticipates new challenges and emphasizes a collaborative approach to overcoming them. "I will handle these challenges by reaching out and asking for assistance on whatever I cannot handle. I have some great support as CoFo, and they have no problem helping." Their expectations for the newly appointed Squad Leaders are clear and focused on fostering a positive and inclusive environment. "I am expecting to see them build a positive environment. We all want to have a safe and welcomed space. it’s their responsibility to make that happen for their members and officer corps." Stormy ended with.
Both Gay redneck and Storm CoFo expressed optimism for the future, highlighting the dedication and collaborative spirit within KSI as key factors for continued success and growth following these recent leadership transitions.
