Every so often, a legend of the community finds its way home. Whether they've only been gone a couple of years or fifteen, it’s important to find opportunities to sit down and learn from those who came before us. On August 24th, KSI R3AP3R2K 7 was welcomed back to the community after many years!

KSI New Blue 7: First of all, welcome back! For those who haven't met you, what years were you active in KSI?

KSI R3AP3R2K 7: Late 2004/2005/2006, if I remember. I joined in the pretty early days of Halo 2. My brother and I matched up against some KSI guys, and I'm pretty sure that with my brother on the team, we won. We joined up shortly after and started building out clans and squads. I was active in Halo 3, but drifted away when my daughter was born, and PC gaming drew me in.

KSI New Blue 7: When you were active, what were your roles/positions, and who did you work with?

KSI R3AP3R2K 7: The primary people that I worked with were JT, Natas, Shankenstein, Shanklover, Spider & Double Dzz, and many others. We built clans and squads out. We had a Big Team Battle group, which would go in and clean house. Lots of the people that we played with and against would message us about joining. It was a great time. I worked a lot on our early forums. Building out sites for the different clans, keeping things organized. If I remember right, we even held court back then, and I would participate in those as well. Been a long time.

KSI New Blue 7: On your KSI Wiki page, there is a photo of a LAN party hosted by you. How many did you host, and what was the atmosphere like?

KSI R3AP3R2K 7: We had LAN parties pretty often. We played Halo CE and Halo 2 almost every other weekend. Less with Halo 2 as it was online. We would do them at 3 or 4 different people's houses. They were always pretty chill. Lots of fun just shit talking people in the other room. It was a blast. I am still friends with most of the people in that pic today. It was a really great time, and I kinda hate what the internet has done to gold old Lan Parties. We do one a quarter or so with my IRL friends group still.

KSI New Blue 7: What challenges did you face personally as a community leader, and what challenges did the community itself face as a whole?

KSI R3AP3R2K 7: Honestly, the biggest challenge is just the people. You get a lot of different attitudes and ideas, and to focus them all on one single idea is rough. Dealing with a lot of different emotions that can sway the group one way or the other while you are trying to do things. The biggest deal with the community itself was just getting big. It can be a good and a bad thing to get large. Once you get large, the haters come out of the woodwork.

KSI New Blue 7: What advice do you have for members who want to leave their mark on the community, just as you have?

KSI R3AP3R2K 7: You just need to be active. Volunteer to help with things outside of games to assist the current leadership. Setting a good example for everyone else is huge as well. Be nice to others, remind others to be nice. Help resolve issues among members. Keep yourself busy doing things for KSI, and it will show. Leadership will take notice. OH, and keep politics out of game life. Lol

Thank you for your historic contributions to KSI and for your time in this interview! I always enjoy spending time with leaders of previous generations because it helps us to better understand our past. Knowing our past helps us to better understand our future, what to seek out, and what to avoid. If any readers have suggestions for leaders I should interview next, please feel free to direct message me!
