Did you know that Sleep Token is an enigmatic UK-based band that blends jazz, R&B, and pop together? Along with keeping their identities a secret by wearing masks. The music they have put out in the past couple of years helped me when I was in a dark place. For me, their music has always and will always make me smile every time I listen to it. They are one of the few bands that I listen to that can make me smile and laugh when I’m down, and I hope they can do that for many more people.
Sleep Token formed in 2016, and they’re originally from London, England. Their first EP was released in December 2016, and it is called One. Sleep Token was signed by Spinefarm Records. They released their full-length album, Sundowning, in 2019, and then in 2021, they released This Place Will Be Your Tomb.
I found Sleep Token through TikTok mainly, when I started following them and listening to their music. My favorite song of theirs is Damocles. But mostly all of their music is my favorite, and it puts me in a good mood.
Sleep Token’s demographic is a huge percentage of Gen Z and Millennials. They're also popular amongst older crowds, not just the younger crowds!
The music Sleep Token makes is a mix between metal and pop. Some songs sound slower, and some don’t. I believe they go between metal and pop and whatever else they feel like making.
Have I ever seen them in concert? No, I wish. I know they were in Atlanta in September, but I never got the time off to go and see them.
Sleep Token's most popular song is The Summoning, due to it going viral on TikTok. Along with Alkaline, Take Me Back to Eden, and Chokehold. Their most successful album is Even in Arcadia, which sold 73,500 albums, with 47,000 vinyls being included in that number.
Sleep Token’s tours are very highly immersive, theatrical rituals. They don’t have banter with their crowds, and they don’t speak to the audiences. Sleep Token often prefers to sing live rather than on recordings. Their tickets often sell out as soon as they’re announced, leading to large-scale venues, arenas, and festival appearances.
All in all, I think Sleep Token is a good band to get into if you’re looking for something different than what you normally listen to. I think they’re amazing with their vocals, along with their stage presence. From what I’ve seen from their concerts on TikTok, they look like they have a lot of fun and bring a lot of energy to where they’re performing.
