Article:KSI Women Create History
Article
Coming to the end of Women’s History Month, it’s important to highlight some of our female leaders! KSI would be unrecognizable without the efforts of our amazing women in leadership. In today’s interview, we’ll be hearing from three of them about their experiences ranking up, in gaming culture, their inspirations, and their advice for the next generation! Without further ado, let me introduce you to the interviewees.
- KSI Katana 7 is the Senior Director of Digital Services. She was recruited into Babylon FA back in 2019 and has since ranked up in practically every area! She’s served as Courts Supervisor, Graphics Supervisor, Clan Ops Director, Wiki Moderator, Community Admin, and even Executive Director!
- KSI LOTUS 7 is the Division Leader of Rogue Operations and Graphics Supervisor. She started her gaming community career in October 2016 and joined KSI in November 2023 in the Graphics Team. Lotus joined Haven CR in June 2024 and split it to create Chimera CR. After Rogue Operations’ original Div Lead left, Lotus took over and built it to the powerhouse it is today!
- KSI Starry is the Archives Supervisor, a Senior Analyst, a Senior Officer in Deathnote RO, and an Events Team Member. Joining Chaos IA in September 2024, she worked up to Co-Founder in Ancient Order. First joining AAP back in January 2025, she was promoted to Team Lead, then Supervisor of the Archives Team!
Question 1) What has your experience been like as a woman in the ranks of KSI? Did you face any unique challenges due to your gender?
- KSI LOTUS 7: Being a woman in the ranks of KSI often means navigating a space that, while built on a foundation of brotherhood and gaming culture, presents a distinct set of hurdles and triumphs. For many, the experience is defined by a drive to prove that skill and leadership aren't gendered. I've come across so many women in leadership positions during my time in gaming communities that put time, effort, and dedication into making it a better place for not only fellow women gamers but male gamers too. Creating that safe environment for other gamers who share the same interest, without being subjected to criticism for their gender and how they carry themselves. Many of the challenges that I face are often having to deal with male-dominated members who feel the need not to have to listen to a "female" member of leadership just because they are a woman. Regardless of gender, anyone is capable of leading if they put the effort into it.
Question 2) What is your analysis of gaming culture's level of inclusiveness for women?
- KSI Katana 7: Gaming culture has always been geared more heavily toward men, mainly, but we’ve seen a shift towards more inclusivity as of late, with more female representation in video games. It has been exciting to see more women get involved in the gaming scene these last few years, and it is becoming more common.
Question 3) Were there any women in leadership who inspired or mentored you in your journey?
- KSI Starry: When I first started to rank up, I was fortunate enough to have the majority of my officers be female. My squad leader was a woman, and so was my Co-Founder. I had the privilege to work alongside KSI Medusa 7, who taught me a lot about leadership. I learned that in a community like this, it’s okay to have feelings, but you have to use them right when it comes to leadership. You can’t let them control you, especially as a woman. Because people see it as a weakness when you “care too much”. Medusa is a woman who cares and leads by example, putting her people first. No matter what. She can be emotional, but she can also be ice cold when needed. She tells you things straight up and makes sure you succeed to the best of your ability. She was someone I looked up to when I decided to rank up.
- KSI LOTUS 7: During my 10 years in gaming communities, I have had my fair share of both negative and positive experiences. I do remember having a female leader over my clan. We never saw her except during Sunday meetings. This person never engaged with members of my clan or me. Even going as far as purchasing a game so that she would be able to play with us, that never really made a difference. My whole journey into leadership, she was the one person who motivated me to not be like. I was not going to do what she did. We as leaders should value our members and be their voice. We should take the time to meet everyone and get to know them, not just on a gaming level but on a personal level as well.
Question 4) What advice do you have for women in KSI who are interested in ranking up?
- KSI Katana 7: Ranking up in KSI has always been a great way to learn new skills that can translate into real life. One piece of key advice I would give is to learn from those around you. As you move up the ranks, learn from scenarios others face. There are always diverse ways of leadership and skills you can learn from those around you.
- KSI LOTUS 7: Lead by Example. Show that your rank is earned through your contributions to the community's health. If your members don't see you being active or engaging, they think it's okay for them not to be as well. If they see you cutting corners, not following community rules, they think it's okay to do the same and not be reprimanded for it.
- KSI Starry: Do your best. Don’t settle for less than you deserve, and don’t let opportunities slip by you just because someone else thinks they deserve it more. If you put in the work and you enjoy what you’re doing, you can go far in this community. Just stay out of trouble, and you will be all good 🩷
Thank you to Katana 7, LOTUS 7, and Starry for their perspectives and advice. Could you imagine Rogue Operations, Digital Services, or the Archives Team without these leaders? Oh, and shoutout to all the other fantastic women who make KSI the best gaming clan in the world! Your contributions and leadership inspire our community every day.
