ShadowRun is the new game everyone is talking about, which was created by Fasa Studios, and Havok. Some people say it�s the �new halo�, and others rate it at less then tree stars. Although some may rate it low on the star standards, ShadowRun is undoubtedly an up and coming game. I played the demo for 2 hours straight, and I couldn�t keep my hands off the controller, until I fell asleep.
What�s so good about this game? Not to mention up to 16 player online matches, over 10 different maps, three different gametypes, and a variety of weapons, magic, and gadgets, it is very interesting; you can play cross platform against people playing it on Windows Vista. So the controller and Mouse & Keyboard are always fighting for which is better. Game play is based upon rounds in a match. You buy your weapons, spells, and enhancements, with your own money; and you get money depending on how your performance was in the previous match, or the default start salary. It�s like a combination of Unreal Tournament, and Counterstrike Source. You can play as four different Races. Troll, Human, Elf, and dwarf. Each race had different attributes in Health, Essence (Mana), Top Speed, and Strength. Also, each race has a special ability for themselves such as regenerating health when not being attacked, and no penalty to your Essence for using �Tech�.
So what kind of game is it? ShadowRun is a game where you combine the uses of Advanced Technology (such as tactical boosters), Magic Spells, and Weapons to eliminate your opponents and capture the �artifact�. The weapons range from a Futuristic Sniper Rifle, to an Ancient Katana. The spells range from resurrection, healing, teleportation, and attack spells. The Technology ranges from a body �Glider� that furthers you when your jumping, an attachment to your guns that improves gun accuracy, and �enhanced vision� that allows you to see through walls.
How do you play? Teamwork is key; for two of the three current game types are Objective games. The other is called Death is easy, and the only way to stay alive is to be revived by another teammate in objective games. How do you stop people from reviving their downed teammates? Plain and simple; attack the corpse until it disappears, or kills the person who revived them. Killing the person who has revived someone causes the revived person to go through a process of �bleeding out�, where they lose their life until they die. In the objective games, when you pick up the �artifact� you can�t shoot, or use any magic, or tech unless you drop it.
I think that most people will enjoy playing ShadowRun. But don�t take it from me. See for yourself, download the demo, and if you like it, buy it.
